Seattle, Washington – Car-Truck Collision on I-5

Seattle, Washington (May 15, 2019) – A car and a box truck struck collided on the Interstate 5 under the Washington State Convention Center on Wednesday morning. According to the report from the Seattle Fire Department all off the occupants of the involved vehicles were able to escape safely. No injuries were reported in the incident.

The cause of the accident has not been identified, but the car collided with the box truck shortly before 9 a.m. The resulting collision was a rollover collision, but no one was harmed. The accident however caused a lengthy delay in the traffic in the area. The ramp onto the Interstate 5 on University Street was closed for investigation, and northbound lanes were initially blocked. By 9:45 a.m., the main lanes have reopened.

Specifically, trucks can weigh 20-30 times more than passenger cars, and their height and greater ground clearance can cause smaller vehicles to be more easily toppled in car-truck accidents. Consequently, studies have proven that most deaths in large truck accidents are passenger vehicle occupants, who are more vulnerable in case of collision. However, in a 2013 study, most car-truck accidents are often caused by car drivers, with relation to driver errors. Regardless of which vehicle you are driving, one must always exercise caution on the road. With both cars and trucks, drivers must be responsible for making sure their vehicle is in a good condition and not prone to vehicle failure, and to always consider the road and weather conditions.
