One of two protester victims in Seattle pedestrian accident dies

SEATTLE, WA – One of the victims in Saturday’s hit-and-run attack against racial justice protesters died later that night, according to KUOW.

The victim is Seattle resident Summer Taylor, 24, who died Saturday night at a Seattle hospital.

The other victim in the attack, Portland resident Diaz Love, 32, remains in critical condition at this time.

The attack occurred just before 2 a.m. when a Seattle man drove a white Jaguar through a crowd of protesters gathered on Interstate 5, which had been closed off for the “Black Femme March” for racial equality and justice. The 27-year-old driver drove into the two victims, sending their bodies “flying,” according to the article.

After striking the victims, the Jaguar fled the scene.

The driver was later caught by police on the highway, near Edgar Martinez Way. A breathalyzer test reportedly showed he was not intoxicated at the time.

The driver is facing two felony counts of vehicular assault and is being held in police custody at this time.

Authorities continue to investigate the motive behind the attack and how the driver gained access to the closed highway.
