YAKIMA, WA – Eight people were displaced and three dogs died after a fire burned through a duplex in Yakima’s 1300 block of South 2nd Avenue on Friday afternoon.

According to a press release from the Yakima Fire Department, firefighters arrived on the scene at 4:37 p.m. Friday and found that the attic of the structure was fully engulfed. All residents of the home made it out without suffering any injuries, but the three dogs died inside.

The front unit sustained most of the damage, but four people from each unit, including two juveniles, were displaced because of damage to the attic. No one was injured.

Fire investigators determined that the cause of the blaze was a pot of oil left on the stove that caught fire.
