Bremerton, Washington – Fire Breaks Out on Boat, Forces Man and Two Dogs to Evacuate

Bremerton, Washington (September 27, 2019) – A fire broke out in a boat at the Bremerton Yacht Club on Friday. The boat operator, Mike Babbitt, steered the vehicle away from the yacht club to prevent the fire spreading to other boats, and was able to safely evacuate the vehicle with his two dogs. They were rescued by friends and Babbitt was taken to a hospital.

According to the report, Mike Babbitt left his slip at the Bremerton Yacht Club to fuel up, and saw that the engine compartment of his boat was smoking before catching on fire. The boat operator judged that an extinguisher wasn’t enough for the situation and steered the boat away. The cause of the fire has not been determined.
